Sandy Hook Promise (SHP) co-founder and co-CEO Nicole Hockley joined a panel at the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) to address gun violence and announce plans for deeper engagement efforts, particularly in Southern states. The panel also highlighted SHP’s Know the Signs programs and bipartisan policy solutions that are helping to prevent gun violence across the U.S.

During the CGI week, former President Bill Clinton spotlighted SHP’s bold new plan to expand its gun violence prevention efforts into key Southern states. These include Texas, Kentucky, Georgia, Mississippi, and Tennessee. He stressed the initiative’s urgency and the need for more community involvement.

Building an Inclusive Movement

Gun violence is the leading cause of death for children in America, surpassing car accidents. So, we’re broadening our advocacy and engagement efforts. We’re using nonpartisan, community-driven solutions. They focus on what unites us: protecting children and building a safer future for all.

Watch Nicole Hockley share insights on engaging communities across the political spectrum at the Clinton Global Initiative panel.

Why Our Nonpartisan Approach Matters

Unlike many national organizations, SHP is nonpartisan. Our approach engages gun owners and rural residents in open dialogue. We connect with individuals who may feel alienated by traditional reform and advocacy efforts. By agreeing on safety, we can engage people across divides.

SHP will continue to focus on community-based solutions that all can agree on. This will help local leaders tackle the causes of gun violence to create lasting change.

Empowering Local Communities Through Partnerships

To ensure this initiative’s success, SHP will partner with local groups. We will also use our national media to amplify these new voices. We’ll highlight our shared solutions for community safety. These partners will help us grow an inclusive movement.

Gun violence is preventable, but it requires everyone’s participation. We aim to build a united path forward. It must reflect all U.S. residents’ shared value: protecting our children from gun violence in schools, homes, and communities. To do this, we will foster leadership and offer nonpartisan solutions.

Preventing Gun Violence is Possible—And You Can Help

Sandy Hook Promise believes everyone can help prevent gun violence. This includes parents, gun owners, and concerned community members. There is a place for all in this movement. We will uphold that belief. This is part of our CGI commitment and thought partnership. No matter where you live, learn how you can get involved.
