Dyuthi, a senior in California, started a SAVE Promise Club at her school last year after hearing about the program from a leadership advisor. Serving as president of the Club, it quickly grew from about a dozen members to more than 40 in the first year alone.
“Sandy Hook Promise is about helping people back into the light: potential victims who stare down the barrel of the gun, and potential victims who stand behind the trigger. This organization stands for something really beautiful, and I couldn’t wait to bring it to my school.”Dyuthi, National Youth Advisory Board member
One of her favorite activities is a Town Hall-style discussion that the Club holds on a monthly basis where anyone can come to just listen or speak. They are hoping to continue these virtually during the upcoming school year because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Programs like Start with Hello will also be crucial during the school year.
“I’ve found that this space yields some of the most incredible conversations that have needed to be had for so long, and builds a sort of tacit agreement between students that advocates for a change. Students leave these meetings feeling heard and inspired.”Dyuthi, National Youth Advisory Board member
