Our mission is grounded in valuing prevention over fear. That’s why, given the scope of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, we’re taking measures to protect the health and safety of our staff, partners, and the school communities we serve.
Carrying on our Mission During the COVID-19 Crisis
With children across the country staying home from school to prevent the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19), our focus on protecting their safety and well-being has never been more important. Research shows that when young people feel excluded, bullied or depressed, they’re at risk of harming themselves or others.
The heartbreaking reality is that these problems don’t go away when students are kept at home – such issues can get worse during this crisis. Social isolation leaves some children without access to school-based support. Sadly, others at risk of abuse at home are increasingly vulnerable. That’s why we’re continuing our work to protect children from violence, including:
- Leaning into a distributed workforce, with staff carrying on our mission remotely until sheltering in place is no longer necessary.
- Operating our Say Something Anonymous Reporting System’s Crisis Center 24/7, so students can continue to report concerning behaviors or when they see a someone in crisis with the potential to harm them self or others.
- Working with our STOP School Violence grantee partners to develop a training calendar and apply for no-cost extensions.
- Providing a Youth and Educator Activity Guide for times of social distancing
- Sharing tools to help children with social-emotional learning at home
- Continually creating new content and curating ideas for at-home learning and resilience. Follow us on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn to see the latest.
