Washington State's Initiative 594 likely stopped a prohibited purchaser from buying a weapon at a gun show earlier this month.
The organizer of the show hired 3 federally licensed gun dealers to manage background checks for the show on December 6th when one came back with a denial. The applicant had a warrant out for his arrest and was denied on that basis.
The new law successfully prevented the applicant from purchasing a rifle. We are encouraged by mounting proof such as this that universal background checks at gun shows and for online sales keep weapons out of the hands dangerous criminals.
