NEWTOWN, Conn. – One person was killed, and six others were wounded in a shooting that occurred during homecoming celebrations on the campus of Lincoln University in Pennsylvania. The attack took place outside of the International Cultural Center building and may have involved more than one shooter.
The deceased victim has been identified as a 25-year-old man from Wilmington, Delaware that was killed by a gunshot to the head. The injured victims are all between the ages of 20 and 25 years old and are expected to survive.
A 21-year-old suspect is in custody and charged with carrying a concealed firearm without a license. It is not yet known if that weapon was involved in the shooting. A motive is also unknown at this time.
According to the Gun Violence Archive, there have been at least 18 mass shootings in Pennsylvania thus far in 2025 where four or more people have been killed or injured, excluding the shooter.
In response to the attack, Nicole Hockley, co-founder and CEO of Sandy Hook Promise and mother of Dylan who was killed in the Sandy Hook Elementary School tragedy, issued the following statement:
“This tragedy is yet another horrifying example of the ways that gun violence robs our nation’s young people of so much. Instead of a safe homecoming celebration and the experience of simply being college students, so many lives have been ripped apart by this senseless act. We cannot stand for this. Our young people deserve far better.
“We stand with each of the victims, their loved ones, and the community of Lincoln University in our mission to create a future where people no longer have to live in fear of being shot – especially at schools. This future becomes all the more attainable the more we come together to take action. By recognizing the warning signs, creating environments where everyone looks out for one another, and supporting policies that prohibit the misuse of firearms, we can and we will make this future a reality.”
