As we reflect on the past year at Sandy Hook Promise (SHP), we are filled with gratitude for what we have accomplished. And hope for what is possible.

 

Your advocacy and support are helping  to build a safer nation for all children.  Together, we have made significant strides in preventing gun violence, strengthening youth leadership, and saving lives.

Impact Through the Years

On a bitterly cold January 14th, 2013, grieving Newtown families made a solemn promise to do all that they could to protect children. To make our nation a safer, better place by turning conversations into action.

Proven Prevention Programs

Our Know the Signs programs provide the knowledge and skills to prevent violence. These evidence-informed programs are creating safer schools, homes, and communities.

 

  • More than 26 million participants since launching in 2014
  • Embraced by 10.9 million Promise Makers, supporting our approach and work
  • Supported by more than 21,000 Promise Leaders, volunteering to help create safer schools, homes, and communities
  • Collaborated with more than 5,000 SAVE Promise Clubs, empowering youth to engage in their communities
National Crisis Center

National Crisis Center

To date, more than 7 million youth and adults have been trained to recognize warning signs and access the Say Something Anonymous Reporting System (Say Something ARS). The National Crisis Center team of highly trained counselors are available 24/7/365. They serve as Trusted Adults and triage submitted tips.

 

Lifetime Impact:
• At least 16 credible planned school shooting attacks averted
• 268,000+ anonymous tips submitted
• 686+ lives saved
• 285+ acts of violence with a weapon averted
• 5,800+ students helped through a mental health crisis

Passing Life-Saving Laws

The Sandy Hook Promise Action Fund (SHPAF) is a 501(c)(4) nonprofit and nonpartisan organization. SHPAF unites Democrats and Republicans to pass life-saving policies that promote youth safety. They have collaborated with every U.S. presidential administration.

 

Key Federal and State Legislation Wins:

  • Spearheaded enhanced enforcement of national gun sales regulations
  • With strong bipartisan support, introduced the PLAN (Preparing Leaders to Assess Needs) Act
  • Passed the SAVE (Safety and Violence Education) Act and Students Safe at School Act in Indiana, Minnesota, Ohio, and Louisiana
  • Passed the Students Safe at School Act (active shooter drill legislation) in Indiana
