Empowering Youth through SAVE Promise Clubs

Empowering Youth through SAVE Promise Clubs

Adult advisors play a pivotal role in the success of the thousands of youth-led SAVE Promise Clubs operating nationwide. By providing ongoing mentorship, SAVE Promise Club Advisors empower youth to create and run engaging anti-violence events and activities in their school or community, foster peer connections, and build leadership skills. SAVE Promise Club Advisor Training equips educators and other Trusted Adults with everything they need to excel as a SAVE Promise Club Advisor.

Leading Youth to Leadership

Students plan and lead SAVE Promise Club activities, but they need an Advisor for support and guidance. SAVE Promise Club Advisors typically spend 2-8 hours per month on Club-related activities. Among other things, Advisors support their Clubs by:

  • Supporting youth leaders in organizing successful SAVE call-to-action weeks and sustaining their efforts over time
  • Organizing meeting and event logistics such as agendas, locations, times, presenters, and guest speakers
  • Guiding youth leaders on permissions, processes, and approvals from your administration and community
  • Sharing project management and scheduling responsibilities for activities and events
  • Sharing Sandy Hook Promise resources, such as newsletters, activity guides, and toolkits
  • Accompanying Club members to presentations, Youth Leadership Trainings, and other events.

SAVE Promise Club Advisor Training is flexible and easy, provided via a virtual workshop. Participants learn the origin, history, and best practices of SAVE Promise Clubs, as well as the wide range of youth violence prevention resources and programs available to SAVE Promise Clubs.

Upon completion, SAVE Promise Club Adult Advisors will understand:

  • The unique role that youth play in making their schools and communities safer.
  • How to recruit Club members, obtain administrative support, and locate and use program resources.
  • How to help youth leaders plan monthly prevention themes and organize annual call-to-action campaigns and events.

“I am very passionate about this program and its message. It’s clear that there needs to be more resources and education in the country about violence in schools, resources available, and advocacy for mental health. Working with the youth as an advisor and mentor in these programs for the past 13 years gives me hope that we can make a difference for the future of our community, even if it means helping one person.”

“These students are such changemakers and strong young leaders, and to be able to support them is amazing. The message of SAVE Promise Clubs is an important one and it’s something that can’t be shared enough. I want to be able to continue to encourage students to get involved, not only at school but within their larger community and work to make change wherever they go.”
