It has been less than a year since Sandy Hook Promise partnered with a national youth violence prevention group called SAVE (Students Against Violence Everywhere), and we’ve already seen incredible growth in reaching more students than ever with our lifesaving Know the Signs programs to prevent gun violence before it occurs.

A SAVE Promise Club can be a standalone club or embedded into an existing club, such as SADD, student council or FCCLA, or another student leadership, civic or kindness club. Students lead the planning and execution of clubs and are directly invested in the safety of their peers and schools. We’ve heard from students about the impact of SAVE Promise Clubs, like one in South Carolina, who told us, “I feel so good knowing that I joined a group that makes others happy and saves lives.”

We’ve also heard powerful stories about the impact these clubs can have on a whole school culture.

“I have seen these students working hard to spread a message of kindness and compassion and always putting their peers’ concerns above their own!”

Another educator in Mississippi talked about how students trained their peers to identify and report warning signs of gun violence.

“We have had multiple students report incidents that would have gone unnoticed were it not for the SAVE Promise Club.”

After the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, we’ve seen a surge of students interested in taking action to make their schools and communities safer. SAVE Promise Clubs are now growing faster than ever across the country!
